Ginger Afro Vanilla Ice BOI, house hunting!

My Sunday was spent house hunting, and I was somewhat a little nervous about the sell yourself interview suss you out process, so I took down a heap of numbers and then set up base in a beer garden calling sharehouses and trying to wangle a look at some places.

I didn't bother calling the "must love cats" or "those willing to set up a commune" but I was tempted just for the laugh, it would appear you get enough loonies without calling the carazy notices. One lad on the phone as he was selling himself, for example liked to grow zuchineeees in his backyard! hmmm and the ad read fairly normal. I decided against a meet and greet with him.

Another meet and greet I should of avoided happened to be my first walk thru. Vegan ginger-afro haired young chap who made all his own clothes and looked remarkably like a small Vanilla Ice. I think I can do better than share with this guy and his small manky bathroom that he expected me to share with three others!

Onwards and upwards thankfully all the places I looked at and all the people that I met were not as weird and its looking promising on the adventure that moving into a new share house may bring. Have a few more places to look at tomorrow, so I shall keep you all posted.

Unsettling feelings..

I had forgotton how unsettling moving to a new city is, Im not sure I could forget such a thing, after the way I had felt when I first moved to Auckland last April, but here I am again facing similar challenges and feelings that I first felt in Auckland.

I am house hunting and the prospect of moving in with strangers excites and scares me all in the same breath. I hate the unfamiliarity of driving round the city trying to work out where things are and what is the best suburb for me to live in.

So much can depend on the choices that you make in the first few days and that can make or break your time away. A feeling of have I done the right thing, are these people I could live with blah blah make my insides churn.

So I wont say that I am leaving it entirely to chance, its day two and Im off to do some more research into the city that Ill be calling home for the next few months. Yesterday it was so hot you could barely move, today ill be in jeans and jumper. Ya just cant pick it.

In the meantime Im thankfull that Ive a really cool place to stay with friends in South Melbourne until I get on my feet, lets just all hope that will be sooner rather than later.

Tunes on the Hume

Terrigal ~ Melbourne

I left Terrigal at 930am in the hope that I would not meet any traffic in Sydney, of course getting thru Liverpool was always going to be a struggle. And what felt like the longest part of the trip was the drive from Terrigal to just past Canberra.

Thankgod for music, without it I could never of made the epic journey that is Sydney to Melbourne on the Hume Hwy. Its a pretty boring drive and I made a few stops, Yass and Holbrook being my main breaks.

Arriving into South Melbourne at 10pm, 12 and a half hourse later and one hell of a playlist, Snow Patrol, The Cure, Ministry of Sound, 4AD compilation, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Sarah Mac Live, Pj Harvey, Two Many DJs. Safe and sound.

Exciting Times

Mardi gras season kicked off last Friday, officially anyway. It started more like Saturday night for me with a Newtown pub crawl which was very interesting to say the least.

Im pretty bloody excited about the next months goings on in Sydney, tickets to the final of Dykes on Mikes this Friday at the Horden with all the girls should make for a funny night. Then there is Fair Day and a fortnight after that its the parade. Bring em on!

This year is flying already, and to my dismay, Ive still not landed on all the films that Ive applied for all over the countryside. This little camper is willing to travel and eager to work let it be known.

So in the meantime, Ill continue to pass my days with painting, and labouring with Eddie and painting garden ornamants for Peggy. (Im not kidding - so far two swans, two ducks, plaster boots and a donkey, one of the gnomes had an accident, he was a little "sick" as Peggy liked to say anyway, well he was sicker when Dad dropped him from a height)
