Getting Paid Out

"well at least you had it insured"

Oh the joys of finding out what all that small print actually means when you pay for car insurance.

The NRMA have settled my claim ligtning quick. But it is only when you have to make a claim you realise what you think you had your car insured for and what it actually is insured for really becomes apparrent.

I hope none of you have to find this out the hard way (is some bastard has stolen your car). Did you know you still have to pay out an excess if your car is stolen! $500; there you go thanks for coming. Its not your fault like running up someones arse and you expect to pay!

And now because the claim has been settled (even before you have banked the cheque) the car is now the property of the NRMA. And because it is there property from your Insurance claim money they take out the money paid for CTP greenslips $361; why thank you.

The RTA rego fee remaining on the car for the year as it is classed as being no longer on the road $111; come on im sure you can wangle some more out of me.

Oh and yes they can, that $384 I paid them only a few weeks earlier for the Insurance of the car for the year. Well we wll keep all of that as well!

All in all my little mini has cost me, but not in parts and labour like I thought it might have.

My advice, if your going to insure your car for an agreed value, add on a couple of grand just to cover you for all the money that is lost in the fine print and money that you have paid for name changes on title and other added extras.

Im still holding out a little hope that Betsy will be found, hey its my mini, my first one and as all those crazy mini enthusiasts at the mini rally bumper stickers say 'YOU ALWAYS REMEMBER YOUR FIRST MINI' well even if it is now property of the NRMA and ill have to go to auction and buy it back if its ever found or if its not already in Japan!
