Paddy's, poofs & princesses...

Melbourne certainly is diverse, ill give it that much, on Tuesday and Wednesday at Federation Square not only was the Gay Film Festival on, but also the L'Oreal fashion week and to top it off some of the Melbourne Irish community had taken over the stage and had some Irish dancing and ceol on show.

Great to see such a mish mash of people all getting in and using the one area.

Well my first St Paddys day in Melbourne was a wee bit different to what Id usually be up too. Now dont panic, copious amounts of drink were still consumed, but not being a local It was hard to distinguish between the plastic paddy pubs and the real ones.

All these new Irish pubs that are popping up are a disgrace and all the good ones with a wee bit of trad and cred are packed and the average punter has to wait very patiently to enter an already packed pub. So its a no win stituation for the Melbourne newbie. But dont dispair, I made it to a few pubs and had myself a wee pub crawl and ended up at the old Builders Arms in Fitzroy, which is a great Thursday alternative night.

I figured id cut my losses and just head to the Irish festival on Sunday in the Treasury Gardens and drag a few of the lads from work with me. Tis a day like this you miss the pub crawl in the main st in Headford or the craic in the Rocks. Where are all those spare toes when you need em eh?
