Milk @ The Harp - Tempe

If asked how I could best describe 'Milk' I would have to say that this band is...
Well Im not exactly sure. The problem is you see how I catorgorise music and the how the rest of the world catorgorise music is very different, maybe id slot them in between The Murmurs and The Waifs, just down from Cat Power.

Hey I don't wanna put these girls in a box, there music is there own and should be left to speak for itself, and that is does. Perhaps I should leave the music criticism and gig reviews to the professionals.

Helen Begley and Emily Hayes do put on a good show, a mixture of folk, blues and a touch of gospel. Songs about asylum seekers, whores, truckies and factory workers are touching, thought provoking and in this day and age 'Milk' will never run out of things to say as we enter this "Dictatorship that is the Howard govt". Don't be turned off by these heavy topics, the music is delivered in a such a way as it leaves you wanting more and angry at the state of society. Plus any band that uses an accordion gets extra credit in my book, the sultry 'Miss M' a true crowd pleaser.

Of course 'Milk" had some help in Sydney. Always did love the Harp as a venue, and support acts from local Sydney girl Behiye proved a great opener as did next act vocalist/guitarist Cara Grainger whose voice took me on a voyage of American/Irish country with an Aussie twist. This truly was a great afternoon gig, if you get the chance to hear Bridie King and Stephie Marchet, don't miss it, Bridie is a true entertainer in every sense and Stephie has a beautiful powerful voice that made the hairs stand on the back of my neck, belting out soul, blues and gospel, this young women can sing! All these women can sing!
