2009 yeah whatever...
So anyway I had planned to be a better blogger in 2009. Blogs for this, blogs for that and alot of blogs in between.
Hmmm yeah its the 11th of Feb (actually now its the 17th April) and Im only really considering my first serious blog. Which is far from serious. I had initially planned to do a parody of the Queens speech and lead into a series of 2009 blogs. Well maybe next year.
2008 was a crazy year for me. I learned alot, well at least I hope I did. I lost alot. Grief is an ever going struggle that I have had to face in the last five years. (I would never wish anyone to deal with the amount of grief that I have had to process in the past five years) and I have accepted alot.
I have had to make choices this year that affect my life and where I am and I have had to accept that I need to stand behind the choices that I have made. I have hurt people by making these choices, And while I never set our to hurt anyone, my choices have hurt others. I stand behind my decisions, Im sorry if I hurt you in the meantime. I trust in time you will see that I have done the right thing. Even if at times I question myself. You lost yet?? I know I am.
Its not all been doom and gloom in 2008
I have loved, I have learned, I have worked in a position that I am passionate about, I have seen some amazing live music (its what I think truly keeps me going) and I have listened to even more. I have made some bad decisions, I have made made some better ones. I am constantly learning and I will become a better person... well thats what Im hoping for.
Top 5 Gigs 2008
5 - Peaches Enmore Theatre (This gig rocked, she is amazing! She might look like a north western cheerleader, but she is HOT HOT HOT
4 - Pattie Smith - The Opera House - What can I say the Godmother of rock, Had I seen her in my teens I truly would be a rock goddess! Well maybe not, but wow, what a performer.
3- Laura Jean - The Seymour Centre / Well I would have to say Ladytron at the Metro also come in at 3. Oh and Sonic Youth playing Daydream Nation at the Enmore, well the encore at least!
2- The Presets - Enmore Theater . Ok so it was a school night, but you could of fooled all the kids in the cheap seats, this was one of the most energetic gigs I have seen since Faithless in NZ way back in 2004. It was more like looking down at a Rave from the balcony and that was just the warm up DJ.
1 - Sinead O'Connor - The State Theatre. Playing the best of her first album, wearing nothing but a loose fitting men's white long sleeve shirt. Sinead had a voice that will haunt me for the rest of your days. Hair stood on the back of my neck and goosebumps appeared on my arms. She truly is an amazing woman.
Hmmm so Ive named My 5, but i seemed to have missed one gig that was just unforgettable -
Pj Harvey at the Opera House. Oh my God. Edge of my seat every note, Pj has been with me from the very start as so has Sinead. 2008 Has been an amazing year for me gig wise. Musical Heros a-plenty.
Oh and I should make mention of another truly unforgettable gig in 2008 - Lisa Hannigan at Campbells Tavern, what a voice, (she has featured on the Damien Rice albums) and when the Banjo went up in flames! Well it was a great recovery and a gig Im sure no punter or the band will ever forget.
