Shanghai - China Eastern Air

If your in the market for a cheap fare from London to Sydney or I guess they fly back that way also, check out China Eastern Air.

Panic struck when I found myself in Edinburgh with no ticket back to Sydney and the flight prices rising dramatically by the minute before Christmas.

Funds dwindling I was quoted in English pounds a no frills flight for E620 (AU$1800) so I was happy enough, actually I was thrilled to get the Flight via Shanghai for E360 (AU$990) after ringing round. (Try TNT magazine for cheap flights when your in the UK, Flightcentre is a ripoff.)

Now bear in mind that this is a new route and they have yet to get the whole "no I'm only in transit" down pat. Expect to have to clear customs, have your passport taken away by an officer and inspected and told nothing. But Shanghai Airport is new and its modern and its ready, well structurally ready for when this route takes off.

Just don't expect the planes your on with China Eastern to be the same, I was joking about the sweet and sour before I boarded, but you guessed it! Sweet and sour and cheesecake, oh and noodles for breakfast! Inflight entertainment is fairly non existent, no wee telly with multiple channels on this little beauty, infact the movies prob came with the planes. So bring your own entertainment and opt for a seat at the back, cause you will more than likely have a row to yourself to stretch out on.

That said, don't say I didn't warn you, or gave you any good travel tips!

Noice, yeh noice unusual!
